My Pallet walkway/boardwalk

After many many years I finally finished the last of my backyard boardwalks. I started this before I left for Turkey in 91! I finished the 100ft on the other side of my backyard last year. This time I used free pallets. Question is: am I being GREEN or CHEAP!

Find some free Pallets

Found a good supply of pallets and strapping. I took some pallets but mainly the strapping. Generally the strapping was 4ft 2x4s of softwood, probably spruce.

Transport Pallets

I could get at least 20ft of decking out of each pickup truck load. I think I got about 6 loads.

Knock them apart and cut them

Set up a jig to cut all long pieces into either 42" or 48" lengths. Used   all 24" short pieces in my pergola decking project and all other short pieces will end up in my wood stove this winter.

Lay them and screw them

Left a gap in the decking of about 1/4 to 1/2 inch because I had a long way to go. 66ft for this one.

Paint it

Two cans of Behr deck paint from the Home Depot ooops department for $9 a can. Two different shades of brown sort of mixed together. Pictures taken after after first coat.
